Crusty Hot Biscuits
2 1/4 cup sifted flour
4 tea baking powder
1/2 tea cream of tartar
1/2 tea salt
2 Tlb sugar
1/2 cup lard or shortening
2/3 cup milk
1 egg
Sift together flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, salt and sugar into bowl. Cut in lard to make coarse crumbs. Add milk, then the egg. Mix with fork until dough follows fork around bowl.
Knead on floured surface five or six times. Roll or pat into 1/2-inch thickness, cut with a 2 inch cutter. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degree oven 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm. Makes 16 medium biscuits.
My daughter makes these and they are wonderful. I have tried to make a good baking powder biscuit for years and she throws these out with a great finished product every time!!
