Mom's Log Cabin Quilt

This is a log cabin quilt that our Mom made.
For this log cabin the center block is a 4X4" square.
The strips are 2 inches.
To begin sewing this quilt put a strip on the 4X4" square then sew a 2" strip to one side of that square.  Then trim it to be even with the 4X4" square.  Then add the same color on the end touching the fabric you just added.
Do the same thing with the next color.  Mom did this twice for two rows.
Mom matted this in black to match the the center block.  The matting is 3 inch strips.  Then she used some of the block colors to border it out for a nice finish.
Great job as always Mom, thanks for sharing Mom.

Quick and Easy Valentines Lap Quilt

This was a fun little lap quilt, that makes up really quickly.  I cut all the strips 3 inches and just mixed them up to create the rows.  Then I folded fabric in half to make cut out the hearts.  I then appliqued them onto the quilt with the blanket stitch on my sewing machine.  I ran around the edges with fray stop and it looks like I am three, but I didn't want it to fray away.  If you know something that works better or tips on that I would love to hear them.  I tied this with thin ribbon and tied bows with another knot on top of them to keep them from coming untied, so allow a little extra ribbon for the knots.

It is bitter cold here, this will come in handy this year!

Pinwheel Quilt

This is a queen size quilt and it was really fun from start to finish.
I have a red bandanna boy so I thought this would be perfect for him.

For this quilt all the blocks are 5 inch squares.
The pinwheels are also 5 inch square then just fold them 4 times to be triangles.
This will make thick seams, but it isn't hard or bulky.
I made the pinwheel blocks and then just started putting them into rows.
I hand stitched concho's in the center ~ I bought them on Ebay.
I bought leather and tied square knots in each concho with barrel knots on the ends.
My sis and I tied this.  This was a new adventure. We were both happy with the out come.
We tied it on the back making little X's on the front.

I Spy Quilt

This is a lap quilt.  I have in under the seat in the truck for just in case.  In case it is cold and you need it.  In case you get too muddy to sit on the seat.  In case you have a kiddo you need to entertain.  This is an easy quilt pattern that kids really like.  Also a great way to use up any scraps.  We have used it several times.

Dragonfly Quilt

This is a paper pieced quilt.  This one is queen size.
I had a machine embroidery header made to match this quilt.
The dragonflies on this all go different directions in a spiral.
All dragonflies are made from different fabrics.
It was fun to see how they would turn out.
The antana's are hand embroidered on, that is how you anchor the heads to the quilt.
We here at the Busy Bee's hope this gives you some ideas for your next project.
You can buy this and many other paper piecing patters at:

Memory Star Quilt

This star was made by our Grandma.
It is made from ribbons from our Grandpa's grave.
Grandma made one for each of her four children and we think one for herself.
All the quilting is by hand.

Cowboy Boots and Hats Quilts

This quilt is queen size.
All the hat bands are made from the boys western shirts to make it a fun memory.
The mats are black and black with the Indian fabric on a 45 degree cut.

This quilt is queen size also.  This one has the cowboy hats and boots.
Again the printed fabrics are recycled western shirts.
This quilt is matted in green with black cornerstones.

We hope that these quilts inspire you on your next project.
Happy stitchin'

STAR QUILT -- This is a strip quilt

This is strip quilting, it is so much faster than  the way your Grandma did it!!
Instructions to come.......
CHECK BACK SOON!!!

FRIENDSHIP QUILT

Give your friends a pre-cut block and let them design it their own way.   Then sash it together!
You have a priceless keepsake!

9 PATCH QUILT

This quilt is a mix of 4X4 and 5X5 blocks.
The 4X4 blocks have been matted to be the same size as the 5X5 blocks.
They have been put together with a solid block to mix up the patterns.
Then sash it together.  The sides (we held the quilt sided to side to photograph better.) border is 4x4's that have been cut in half so they are 2X4.

9 PATCH

The corner pieces are 4X4s  cut in half point to point.  The other pieces are 4X4 squares.   Put sashing around as desired.  The boarder has point on point 4X4s.

Baby Girl Quilt

Here is an example of a quick and easy baby quilt. The squares are all cut 4 inches square. Instead of the typical 9 patch this is a 16 patch. It has 4 inch strips to put it together. Fleece is on the back for that nice soft fabric that little ones love!
